By creating a clearly defined problem which appeals to the imagination, we hope to inspire a new generation of problem solvers.

Our mission in its essence is quite simple; we want to clean up a plastic bag. The fact that this bag is located on the moon makes things more complicated. It has been left behind after the landing of one of the Apollo Moon missions. and so became one of the many pieces of human litter left in space. The plastic bag was used as a cover to protect the LRRR, a piece of equipment that helped in gaining a lot of valuable information about the position and orbit of our Moon.

Our goal with this mission is to combine two of our interests, spacetravel and caring for the environment, and to challenge ourselves and others into finding new ways of pushing the limits for both of them. Our journey to the moon is one of symbolic meaning; if we succeed in cleaning up the moon a little bit, it can’t be that hard to do the same here on Earth. The negative effects of plastic in the environment on Earth are already more than well known. And now, in this relatively new era of spacetravel and space colonisation, we have an oppurtunity to reflect on our current human habits and to start afresh, and to become intergalactic environmentalists.

For us to succeed in our mission, we are planning on taking the following steps:

 

  • We want to involve like-minded people with MOONMISSION 2030. People with skills that could help us in any way.
  • We are developing a CubeSat that will be capable of picking up the plastic bag when it is deployed on the Moon.
  • We are contacting other (space)organisations with similar ideas or ideals as ours to see if partnerships can be created.

One of the great things about MOONMISSION 2030 is that just about anyone can join! All we ask is for you to share a little bit of your time and knowledge with us, and in return, you will be part of a mission that’s first in its kind. Our only requirements are:

There already is a vast amount of knowledge available about leaving Earth’s gravitational field, spacetravel and landing on the Moon, how do we apply this knowledge to our mission?

Administration and management of our team and new members.

 

FINANCIAL 

How do we make sure our funds are being used in the best way possible? 

 

NETWORK 

How do we get in touch with the right people at the right time? Sometimes a new oppurtunity can be just a phonecall, reference or a postcard away.
